are synthetic fibers
that are not as thick as the fibers of our previously produced BranchBunches Original.
What are BranchBunches?
by ScaleTree.com is a multi-use
material that is designed to replicate the branching structure of
prototype trees, bushes, shrubs, and exposed roots. BranchBunches
add mass and volume to trees while maintaining a desired semi-transparent
appearance. They are suitable for all scales, and work well for deciduous
trees as well as conifers. BranchBunches are designed
to be attached to any armature, be it made of twisted wire, dried
and treated sticks, weeds, and roots, or store bought varieties made
of plastic. Of course we know they work best with our twisted wire
There are many advantages to using
BranchBunches over using other available materials.
Here are a few.
Branches - With BranchBunches
it is easy to create trees and bushes that have that sought after
semi-transparent appearance. They are sturdy enough to be used without
an armature and they maintain their shape well, even when soaked
in glue. The Individual branches are thick enough to be seen at
so the foliage appears to be connected to something substantial,
instead of floating in mid air. BranchBunches are
also great for filling out a tree that has a sparse armature. They
to each other to fill in the gaps where an armature has no limb. (See
the image of the branch detail of BranchBunches Light to the right)
The Color -
After researching the prototype,
most deciduous tree branches appear gray when they are bare, and appear
to be black when shaded by foliage. We have chosen an appropriate
color that satisfies both of these parameters. BranchBunches
will easily take paint if a color change is desired. For more information
regarding coloring, refer to step two of "Creating Trees and Bushes",
in the BranchBunches Instructional Sheet.
BranchBunches are not made of a natural material, they
are not recognizable as a specific species of natural moss or plant.
This is especially important in model photography where recognizable
natural materials can easily give away the illusion of scale.
are totally synthetic which
has many advantages. They are durable and will not become brittle
with age. They are non-magnetic and non electricity conductive,
so they will not be attracted to motor mechanisms or create an electrical
short. They do not contain dust collecting glycerin, and they are
non tasty to insects and pests.
Trees - Although
BranchBunches can be used to make trees in any scale,
modelers that are wanting larger trees will find BranchBunches
to be their product of choice. The two images below show how BranchBunches
can be used to make a large oak tree. This particular tree measures
12 inches high. It was constructed using the same procedures outlined
in the Instructional Sheets. The armature for this tree is one
of our ScaleTree Armatures made of twisted wire.
